MEGA S4 Cloud Storage Support in OurClone

MEGA S4 works with OurClone for sync, transfer, encrypted backup, and mounting as a local folder. Learn how to add MEGA S4 and use it safely.

Sync Transfer Backup Mount as Local Folder

What Is MEGA S4?

MEGA S4 is MEGA.io's S3-compatible enterprise object storage product, distinct from the consumer MEGA cloud drive. OurClone connects to MEGA S4 buckets for sync, transfer, encrypted backup, and mount workflows. For the consumer MEGA service, see [/cloud-storage/mega/](/cloud-storage/mega/) instead.

Official website: https://mega.io/s4

  • S3-compatible enterprise object storage from MEGA.io — separate from the consumer MEGA drive.
  • Connects with Access Key + Secret Key generated in the MEGA S4 console.
  • Useful as a destination for OurClone backup repositories that benefit from MEGA's privacy posture.

What OurClone Supports for MEGA S4

Operation How it works in OurClone
Sync Keep a folder on MEGA S4 synchronized with another cloud storage account or a local folder. OurClone compares file changes and updates only what needs to change.
Transfer Copy or move files between MEGA S4, your Mac, and other connected cloud providers. Transfers run through your local computer, so you stay in control of the data path.
Backup Create an encrypted backup repository on MEGA S4, then save snapshots of local folders. Later snapshots are incremental, so unchanged files do not need to be uploaded again.
Mount Mount MEGA S4 as a local directory in macOS or Windows, then browse and manage remote files from the operating system file manager.

MEGA S4 Upload and Download Limits

These limits come from the storage provider or protocol, not from OurClone. OurClone still has to respect provider file-size caps, API quotas, bandwidth rules, account storage quota, and server-side throttling.

Upload limits MEGA S4 follows S3-style multipart upload behavior — typically 5 MiB to 5 GiB part size with up to 10,000 parts per object. Final per-object and bucket caps are governed by the MEGA S4 plan and account quota.
Download limits Downloads are limited by the MEGA S4 bandwidth policy, plan quota, and request rate rather than a small per-download cap.
OurClone tip For large OurClone jobs against MEGA S4, run a small test upload first to confirm endpoint, region, and bucket policy before scheduling the full job.

How to Add MEGA S4 in OurClone

MEGA S4 connects through S3-compatible access keys in OurClone.

  1. Sign in to your MEGA S4 account at mega.io/s4 and open the S4 management console.
  2. Create or select a bucket, then generate an Access Key ID and Secret Access Key for the workspace OurClone will use.
  3. Note the S3 endpoint URL and region shown in the S4 console.
  4. Open OurClone, click Add Storage, select MEGA S4 (or S3 Compatible), enter the endpoint, credentials, region, and bucket, then connect.
Use a key scoped to the bucket OurClone needs. Avoid sharing the workspace owner’s credentials with multiple unrelated tools.

Sync and Transfer Workflow

After MEGA S4 is connected, open the Migrate area in OurClone. Choose MEGA S4 as the source or destination, select the folders you want to work with, then choose the task mode.

  • Copy duplicates files while keeping the source unchanged.
  • Move transfers files and removes them from the source after completion.
  • Sync keeps the destination aligned with the source folder.

Task progress is visible in the Task tab, including completed, skipped, and failed files.

Backup Workflow

For backups, first create a backup repository on MEGA S4. A repository needs a name, a storage path, and an encryption password. Keep this password safe because it is required for both future snapshots and restores.

  1. Open Backup and create or choose a repository on MEGA S4.
  2. Open the repository and click New Backup.
  3. Select local folders such as ~/Documents, ~/Pictures, or a project folder.
  4. Start the snapshot. The first run uploads the full selection; later runs are incremental.
  5. Use Restore from a backup record when you need to recover files to a local directory.

Mount MEGA S4 as a Local Folder

OurClone can mount MEGA S4 as a local operating-system directory. This is useful when you want to browse cloud files in Finder or File Explorer, open files from desktop apps, or copy files with the same habits you use for local folders.

  • Open the mount area in OurClone and select your connected MEGA S4 account.
  • Choose the remote path you want to expose locally.
  • Pick a local mount point, then start the mount.
  • When finished, unmount cleanly from OurClone before disconnecting your network or shutting down.

Best Practices for MEGA S4

  • Use a clear folder naming convention such as /ourclone-backups, /sync, or /archive.
  • Confirm that your MEGA S4 account has enough storage before running a large migration or backup.
  • Run a small test sync or restore before relying on a new workflow for important files.
  • For large first-time jobs, keep your computer awake and connected to a stable network.
  • Confirm the bucket and key targets MEGA S4 (not the consumer MEGA drive) — the two products are configured separately.
  • If authentication fails later, regenerate the S4 access key before restarting the task.
